A little about me

I am a 40 something IT professional living in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire with a passion and love for photography.

My photographic work has been very heavily influenced by 2 factors; one was being able to spend 6 months travelling around the world in 2001 and the ability to record the memorable places I was lucky enough to visit such as Thailand, Cambodia and New Zealand. The second factor is probably due to the fact I am able to photograph Red Kites from literally the front doorstep of my home and this in turn this has triggered an interest in birds of prey, although I would never want to be or claim to be ‘twitcher’.

My main interests are landscape and animal photography. I have never had much interest in taking ‘staged’ photographs and so steer away from areas such as portraits and lifestyle as I very much prefer a ‘natural feeling’ to my pictures. I would hope though that some of the bird of prey pictures I have taken almost bring a human element into them with the peeking and winking photos which I have been lucky enough to capture.

As a fully qualified PADI Advanced Open Water diver the underwater world is something I get great personal enjoyment from. But, from a photographic aspect this Just adds another factor into the taking of pictures as you have to take into account your buoyancy in the water when trying to get pin sharp photographs. I doubt I will ever get bored of diving whether in the Maldives, Egypt, Mexico and the Oman. With two thirds of our planet underwater there is a whole new world to explore with some truly magnificent creatures that you can and do encounter.

On the 9th June 2009 the barn owl that is displayed on my homepage was picked along with 4 others to be shown on the BBC Springwatch TV Show. I felt incredibly honoured to have my photo choosen out of the 12,000 that had been uploaded onto the Flickr website. Photography is a hobby to me and so family and work matters have to take priority over this, that is of course unless I ever reach the dizzy heights of being a professional photographer being paid enough money to make a living from it. Until that day though I am and will always be an enthusiastic amateur, always looking to get the perfect shot.

I have had my work used by both BBC Springwatch and Autumnwatch on their TV programmes and on their blogs. Dorset Wildlife Trust have used one of my red squirrel photographs in their members magazine. I exhibit my work in and around Buckinghamshire in some of the local art galleries and also actively take part in Bucks Open Studios.

I am also the Chairman of my local camera club and play a prominent role in moving both the club and our members forward in a very positive manner.
